Blue Mountains Gazette : September 23rd 2009
68 The Blue Mountains Gazette, Wednesday, 23 September, 2009 www.bluemountainsgazette.com.au Rugby league Winners: Under 16s Premiership side. Another premiership for the mighty Eagles Lower Mountains Under 16s are Premiers 2009 after beating Blacktown City 22-4 on the weekend. What a great performance, in the team's initial year of first division to win so comprehensively the B grand final at CUA Stadium. Giving up the first try to the opposition only made the team more determined for the rest of the match. It was a super effort by the boys to hit back straight away and then take a 16-4 lead into half time. Once again in this half their defence was immaculate topped off with three great tries. After half time the opposition threw all they had at LMs only to be repelled again and again. Despite being a much smaller team overall, the LM boys played with much more 'heart' to stop the opposition from getting back into the game. Matt Field and Nathan Clarke were equal players player in the grand final. Having said that there was a team of heroic performances including Miki Hughes, Josh Hayton, Ethan Anderson and a great defensive game by Angus Killen including a match turning point, try saving tackle on the corner post. Gordon McLisky had a typical blinder at hooker and took out the players' player for the semi-final series. Everyone at Lower Mountains is very proud of the team's premiership and the way that they took on the challenge of first division and came out on top. A big thank you for the support the boys got at the grand final from all of the Mountains rugby league community and junior players. The positive noise you made was greatly appreciated. Tries, Gordon McLisky, Michael Field, Jack Absolum and Andy Motherwell. Goals R Madgwick 3 from 4. See you at senior presentation night. Springwood Golf Club this Saturday 26, 6.30pm. Under 16's Premiership side consist- ed of Jack Absolum, Ethan Anderson, Nathan Clarke, Ryan Donges, Matthw Field, Mark Field, Michael Field, Jack Fullbrook, Joshua Hayton, Miki Hughes, Angus Killen, Rohan Madgwick, Gordon McLisky. Blackcats player wins $1000 grant for club AAMI and the Country Rugby League (CRL) congratulate Ryan Picard from the Blackheath Blackcats Rugby League Football Club (RLFC), who is this week's winner of the AAMI/CRL Player and Club of the Week competition. Ryan has won a $250 sports voucher for himself and a $1000 grant for his club. AAMI NSW executive manager Andrew Gibson said Ryan, 28, who has only been with the club for a year, has made a huge impact in this shor t time. "Ryan has played an integral role in rebuilding the Blackheath Blackcats and is an extremely deserving recipient of the AAMI/CRL Player of the Week," Mr Gibson said. Club president Wayne Morgan said Ryan came to the Blackheath Blackcats at a time when the club had lost many of its good players and wasn't doing well on the field. "Ryan joined the club, took up the coaching position for 2009 and has helped turn the side around, taking them into a semi-final. He was also named Players' Player for the 2009 season," Mr Morgan said. The Blackheath Blackcats RLFC committee worked tireless- ly to rebuild the club for the 2009 season after what was a chal- lenging year on and off the field in 2008. "The club has been successful in widening its player and fan base," Mr Morgan said.
